Postdoctoral position available

A 18-months (12-months and possible 6-months extension) postdoctoral fellow in the field of spectroscopy and fluorescence microscopy is available in the LIEC-Aiguillettes Laboratory at Vandoeuvre-les-Nancy, France (http://liec.univ-lorraine.fr), under the supervision of Dr. Aurélie Cébron.

The successful candidate will conduct ANR-funded research (Rhizorg project) on the

analysis/visualization of bacterial pure cultures and soil samples using fluorescence microscopy (bacterial cell-labelling using Fluorescence in situ hybridization: FISH technique) combined with FT-Raman spectroscopy. Raman microspectroscopy has the potential to monitor and identify polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) and/or PAH-degrading bacteria using 13C-labelled Phenanthrene. Cell labelling (FISH) and analysis of Raman spectral profiles will constitute the core research of the PostDoctoral position.

A PhD in spectroscopy applied to biological system is relevant. Strong merits for this position are demonstrated experience with one or more of the following fields: IR or Raman spectroscopies, chemistry of complex (bio)molecules, fluorescent cell labelling and embedding techniques, soil science, environmental microbiology. The candidate should demonstrate good abilities to communicate scientifically in English, both orally and written (good track record of publications), creativity, power of initiative, and good social skills.

The LIEC is located at the Faculty of Sciences (Université de Lorraine, http://www.univ- lorraine.fr) at Vandoeuvre-les-Nancy (Lorraine, FRANCE). The laboratory offers extensive labs and facilities for microbiology and ecology, microscopy and microspectroscopy, organic chemistry and plant growth. The historical city of Nancy provides a relaxed environment, 1:30 hour away from Paris by train.

Appointment is for 12-months with a possible extension of 6-month, and start date is January-February 2016. To apply, please e-mail a cover letter, CV and the names and contact information of three references as a single pdf to Aurélie Cébron (aurelie.cebron@univ-lorraine.fr), with the subject line as “RhizOrg-Raman Postdoc application <your name>”, before November 13th, 2015.
